Oats with Berries and Walnuts

Why it helps

Fibre-rich carbohydrates like oats provide sustained energy and help avoid blood sugar spikes, and combining them with fruits and vegetables adds vitamins, minerals, and additional fibre. Walnuts contribute omega-3 ALA and healthy fats, and berries add antioxidants along with natural sweetness, without relying on added sugar. This combination fits well into a balanced breakfast pattern that supports steady energy through the morning.

Ingredients

1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup milk of choice (dairy or unsweetened plant-based)
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
1 tablespoon walnuts, chopped
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Methods

In a jar or bowl, combine the rolled oats, milk, and yogurt.
Stir in the chia seeds and cinnamon.
Add half of the berries and mix well.
Cover and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours.
Before serving, stir and add a splash more milk if needed.
Top with the remaining berries and chopped walnuts.
Serve cold.
